We've been doing this since 2018, and the best part hasn't changed: you never quite know who you're going to end up talking to.

Yes. Free, always. No tickets, no guest list, no signup. We gather from 9 PM by the Spree at Schlesisches Tor. Just show up.
Absolutely, most people do at first. The crowd is a mix of Berliners, expats, travellers and people who just moved here. Coming solo is the easiest way to meet people in Berlin.
No. The meetup is a mix of English and German, and people switch depending on who they're talking to. Either one is enough on its own.
On the Spree riverbank at May-Ayim-Ufer 8 (10997 Berlin), on the opposite side of the Spree from the East Side Gallery. Look for the wooden bench by the railing and the cage on the water just to the left: it's a boarding gate for ships, with stairs leading down to it, and it's locked, which is why we call it the cage. Nearest stations: Schlesisches Tor (U1/U3) and Warschauer Straße (S+U).
